Fall Back ~ Spring Forward

Care Wagon Medical Transport & The Red Cross

would like to remind everyone to

Turn Back Those Clocks

and Check Your Smoke Alarms

Please also think of your elderly relatives, friends and neighbors that may need help completing these tasks!

We are asking every household to check their smoke alarms and practice fire drills at home.
This NOVEMBER 1st WEEKEND we all get an extra hour of sleep as we turn the clocks back one hour to mark the end of Daylight Saving Time. The American Red Cross recommends changing your smoke alarm batteries and testing the alarms at the same time.
LIFE-SAVING CAMPAIGN The Red Cross has launched a nationwide campaign to reduce the number of people killed or injured in home fires by 25 percent over the next five years. Teaming up with local fire departments and community groups, the Red Cross is installing smoke alarms and teaching people how to prevent fires in places where a high number of fires have occurred.
The Red Cross is also asking every household in America to take two simple steps that can save lives: check their existing smoke alarms and practice fire drills at home.
Smoke alarms save lives. You should:
·  Install smoke alarms on every level of your home, inside bedrooms and outside sleeping areas.
·  Check monthly that smoke alarms are working properly by pushing the test button.
·  Replace batteries in smoke alarms at least once a year.
·  Replace smoke alarms every ten years.
PRACTICE HOME FIRE DRILLS Make sure all household members know two ways to escape from every room of your home, and set up a meeting place outside in case of fire. Practice escaping from your home at least twice a year and at different times of the day. Teach household members to stop, drop and roll if their clothing should catch on fire.
Other steps you can take to get prepared include:
·  Updating the emergency contact information in your family communications plan. Choose an out-of-area emergency contact that each person in your family can call if he/she becomes separated during a disaster situation.
·  Making sure your emergency preparedness kit still includes at least a three-day supply of non-perishable food items and water (one gallon per person per day), a flashlight, a battery-powered or crank radio, can opener, first aid kit, copies of important documents, and special items such as medications, diapers, and infant formula.
·  Checking your emergency preparedness kit for expired food items; refresh staples such as water, food and batteries. If there have been changes in prescriptions or dietary needs, add new foods and medications as needed.
Taking simple actions like these can help you be better prepared for a disaster or emergency situation. So, when you turn back the clock this weekend, take a few extra minutes to ensure that you and your family are better prepared for the unexpected.

HAPPY NATIONAL SENIOR CITIZENS DAY!

#SeniorCitizensDay - August 21

August 21st is National Senior Citizens Day!

If you have a senior relative, friend or neighbor, please take a little time to make their Senior Citizens Day special.

Here are a few unique but simple ideas to do just that.
* Write them a letter or make them a little card telling them how much they mean to you.
* Just dropping by to say hello can make them feel very special.
* Work on a jigsaw puzzle together. Large format puzzles make it easier to see and handle the pieces.
* Check around the house for things that might have become difficult for your senior citizen to do, like changing high light bulbs or smoke detector batteries for their safety.
* Create a collage of new pictures of friends, family, and particularly grand and great grandchildren. Add a nice frame and put it on a table where it can be viewed or attach it to the wall.
* If your elderly citizen has a pet, bring along a special pet treat or maybe a new pet throw blanket for its bed.
* Take your senior citizen for a nice outing - perhaps a museum, a movie or even a short visit to a local park might be enough to bring some enjoyment to their day. !!! If your senior is disabled, you can still take them for a nice outing!!!! Wheelchair accessible transportation to personal interest destinations can be easily arranged with a local medical transportation company. Gift Certificates for non emergency transportation may also be available to purchase for a future destination such as a trip to a salon/barber or other personal interest destination.
* And if your senior citizen prefers to stay home, bring a nice lunch or dinner to share and bring a movie along.

Have fun!!
Put a Jigsaw Puzzle together with a Senior Citizen!

Happy National Senior Citizens Day to all

Local Redlands Wounded Warrior Heads Out To Event In Style!

LOCAL WOUNDED WARRIOR ON HIS WAY TO The 2016 warriors to lourdes pilgrimage

Care Wagon Medical Transport is honored to be a part of this Redlands Disabled Veteran's Journey.

Wounded Warrior Finds Care Wagon Medical Transport For 2:00 AM Transportation
The Warriors to Lourdes Pilgrimage for Military Personnel as part of the International Military Pilgrimage (PMI) is a joint project of the Archdiocese for the Military Services, USA, and the Knights of Columbus. Building on the commitment of both organizations to serve members of the military, the pilgrimage is designed to allow military personnel and their designated caregivers (if applicable) and/or companions to attend the International Military Pilgrimage (Pèlerinage Militaire International or PMI) in Lourdes, France, for a time of resting, praying, healing and connecting with other members of the armed forces from across the world. The 2016 Warriors to Lourdes Pilgrimage for Wounded or Disabled Military Personnel for the 58th Annual International Military Pilgrimage will take place May 17-23, 2016.
Care Wagon Medical Transport is extremely honored to be providing the wheelchair accessible transportation for this local disabled veteran, Timothy Doerner for his Warriors to Lourdes Pilgrimage Experience. The Knights of Columbus council, in conjunction with Supreme Council, is sponsoring Tim's participation in this 2016 Warriors to Lourdes Pilgrimage. Tim's traveling companion to Lourdes is his full time caregiver, Laurie Dauenhouer, and her expenses for the trip are also paid by the Warriors to Lourdes Program.
Don O'Neal and the chaplain for the Knights of Columbus Council, Father Donald Kinney, were present for Tim and Laurie’s ground transportation that began their exciting week long journey. Don was extremely pleased with the wheelchair accessible transportation service he had arranged in advance with Care Wagon Medical Transport and had this to say about the experience:
"This company is FANTASTIC! Searching the internet for some medical transportation company that would handle transport of a wheelchair-bound disabled Veteran to our local airport at 2:00 am, I was being met with much nonsupport. Most of the ones I called would not even TALK to me, after I said the trip would be at 2:00 am., even though all of their ads claimed 24/7 service. When I reached Evelyn at Care Wagon Medical Transport, she was very courteous and helpful, and she issued the contract for transport right away, at a reasonable price! She even called me the evening before the trip, to reassure me that the van would be there on time. Naturally, Audie was there a few minutes early, to make sure the trip went smoothly, as it did. This is the type of company my generation was used to dealing with, but which you can rarely find in this millennium generation!"  ~ Don O'Neal  ~  May 2016

Providing Non Emergency Transportation to local disabled community residents is what Care Wagon Medical Transport is all about. Wheelchair Accessible Transportation is sometimes needed at 2 am and Care Wagon Medical Transport tries hard to provide many important services whenever needed, 24/7. Care Wagon's Customer Reviews Page shares many reviews from more real clients just like this one. Our Featured Wounded Warrior

Timothy Doerner was born at March AFB Hospital, in Riverside and comes from a military family.  He attended Westminster High School, as well as several Department of Defense schools in Europe. Tim is a resident of Redlands, and a member of Council 3109 and The Holy Name of Jesus Parish.  Tim was an Army Ranger, and he was seriously injured in a parachuting accident while on active duty.  He is permanently confined to a wheelchair.  He is now 53 years old, and he has been confined to that wheelchair for maybe 30 years.  Tim is a devout Catholic, and he maintains a positive outlook on life, and seems to always be in good spirits. When asked why he choose to live in Redlands, Tim said it's because of the quality of care provided by the Loma Linda VA Medical Center. Tim’s traveling companion to Lourdes is Laurie Dauenhauer, his full time caregiver. Her expenses for the trip are also paid by the Warriors to Lourdes Program.  Laurie is a longtime resident of Redlands and both she and her parents are actively involved in the Redlands Footlighters Theater Group.

Don't forget!

May is National Military Appreciation Month

Congress designated May as National Military Appreciation Month in 1999 to ensure the nation was given the opportunity to publicly demonstrate their appreciation for the sacrifices and successes made by our service members - past and present. Each year the president makes a proclamation, reminding Americans of the important role the U.S. Armed Forces have played in the history and development of our country.

May was selected because it has most days set aside for celebrating and commemorating our military's achievements. These days include Loyalty Day, which was established in 1921, Victory in Europe (VE) Day commemorating the end of WWII in Europe on May 8, 1945, Armed Forces Day created in 1949, Military Spouse Appreciation Day established in 1984, and of course the best known of the May holidays, Memorial Day.

Armed Forces Day ~ Saturday, May 21, 2016

ARMED FORCES DAY

 Saturday, May 21, 2016

President Harry S. Truman led the effort to establish a single holiday for citizens to come together and thank our military members for their patriotic service in support of our country.

On August 31, 1949, Secretary of Defense Louis Johnson announced the creation of an Armed Forces Day to replace separate Army, Navy, Marine Corps and Air Force Days.
The single day celebration stemmed from the unification of the Armed Forces under the Department of Defense.

Care Wagon Medical Transportation Client Reviews

Customer Review for Care Wagon Medical Transport
~ Lorraine S. ~ Ontario, CA ~ 2016 ~

I was so happy and grateful to find Care Wagon Medical Transport!

To be confident I would arrive on time and safely to appointments played a huge part in my recovery from injuries.  Evelyn's skill at scheduling appointments, revising dates & times is unmatched! Plus she always made a follow-up call the day before for confirmations. I had many appointments and Audie was always right on time. I was in a transport chair for most of the appointments and he was very professional and gentle. Our trips were marked with many interesting conversations & I could forget my injuries for a while! I would not hesitate to sue this service again. I'm a believer!
